22 Signs You are using Microsoft Windows Vista

You restart Internet Explorer more often than you click your mouse buttons

You can't watch a video because Media Player freezes up... Every time

User Access Control (UAC) pops up so much that you can do anything productive. At all.

You can only find one lousy Vista theme, even though you bought Vista Ultimate

File copying and network transfers take so long, it would have been quicker to load Linux on your laptop (from scratch) and copy the files to a flash drive and walk down to the server room and copy them onto the file server.

Popup balloons appears for every $*#@ing thing, and you can't click anything you are working because the focus always changes to them.

Windows update insists on rebooting your computer whether or not you are in the middle of creating an important document.

Dialog boxes blank out if you have email, Internet Explorer and one other application open.

You gave up trying to install a network printer

You have to delete or copy off 90% of what you had on C drive to install Vista, which required you to restart the Vista setup 8 times to remove enough files.

Half of your peripheral devices do not work as there are no Vista drivers

You begin to dream about buying a new Mac because they Just Work

You fantasize about moving your fortune 500 company over to Linux or Macintosh because everyone wasting so many man hours trying to figure how to actually use Vista

Application window sizes never remember your preferences, you set them to open full screen and they insist on open in tiny windows that even flies have a hard time seeing the content of.

You lose internet connectivity 15 or more times a day because Vista thinks you are on a restricted network.

All applications run 75% slower than they did on any previous version of Windows.

You feel the urge to toss your PC through the window more than 5 times a day.

More than half of the applications you use every day just go Poof, you reboot 30 times a day and they still go Poof

You begin to actually believe the email you received stating that Microsoft employed a room full of monkeys typing on typewriters to write the source code for Vista.

Unbuntu Linux is suddenly seems like a good idea for your workstation

You wonder why Microsoft released those animated Dream Scene desktop backgrounds that only support a couple of resolutions, which pisses you off after having shelled out so much money for the Ultimate version of Vista

You start feeling like a dumbass for believing all the Vista hype, even when your geek friends told you to stay away from Vista.

Do you have a Windows Vista annoyance? Post it in the comments.

Thank god I listened to my geek fellas and did not buy Vİsta, XP is a lousy os but still better than Vista

hmmm - I have been using Vista on all our machines for 6 months and I just don't recognise these issues with our installs, with the exception of the poor Ultimate extras.

I think most issues come down to hardware drivers which is Vista's real problem - if you have up to date ones then everything is pretty smooth (which we seem to have)

Ed Bot has a good series on "Fixing Windows Vista" that covers a lot of this stuff:
http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=429
http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=436
http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=437
http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=448

I know you shouldn't have to "Fix" something you bought, but if you have a bad install and drivers from the getgo then it might be worth investing some time in it...

I decided to upgrade my Desktop to Windows Vista Ultimate and so far I'm actually not that displeased with it. My initial complaints were more based off of my experiences with the Beta so that might have something to do with it.

I have some complaints with it, the UAC (which I turned off immediately) is a pain in the butt, and its high system requirements can both be show-stoppers which has pretty much limited the locations where I can install it.

My Desktop runs it quite well, but realize my Desktop is probably overpowered when compared to the run-of-the-mill computer with a higher end dual core CPU, 4GB of RAM, and a DirectX 10 compatible video card. Put it on a lower end computer and you probably will have a significant amount of trouble with it. I also probably got lucky with hardware compatibility as all my hardware was recognized and I was able to get drivers for, and I don't use any applications that have problems under Vista.

I think that pretty much sums up what the true problem of Vista is. It's bloated system requirements and its compatibility issues. Get past that, and you'll probably be ok, but operating systems should NEVER be designed the way Vista was. I still much prefer to use my MacBook Pro with OS X Leopard.

One more thing, why the hell did they keep the registry??? That should have been eliminated years upon years ago and many versions back.

I purchased a new laptop last year with Vista on it. Vista, to me, is the Grandma's Buick of computer OS. It seems to be set up for Grandma, who has no idea what any of those things do on her computer but just wants to have IM and email to talk to the grandbabies. Maybe Grandma needs a warning every single time her computer hits the web, and wants to block every single webpage and be constantly warned that she is in horrible danger - but myself, I think I just might know what I'm doing. Great OS for grandma or your three year old. For the rest of us, especially anyone who works online - I am SO GLAD I still have XP on the desktop and have no plans to "upgrade" (downgrade!) to Vista on any other machine.

This is such garbage. I've been using Vista for months and have zero problems with it. I can leave it running for weeks, no reboots, zero crashes.

The only people that seem to love talking trash about it are Mac cultists. And guess what? The author reveals a certain...hmm...shall we say *SCREAMINGLY OBVIOUS BIAS* with this gem of a line buried right in the middle of his retarded little diatribe.

"You begin to dream about buying a new Mac because they Just Work"

Whatever, buddy. Does Apple pay you to put your name on this whorish nonsense, or do you open your legs for them for nothing?

Hi Geoff,
Yes I do have a Mac, but it is only used for layout and photography work, it stays off most of the time. I use Windows every day nearly all day long, so I am not a Mac cultist or elitist. With the being said when I do have the opportunity I am going to buy a G5 so I can run both Windows and OS X on the same machine rather than have to separate machines. It's more of a money saving thing that it is a preference. I can say I have less issues with OS X (it just blipping works like it should) than I had in the past with Vista. I do have one machine left with Vista, a laptop that came with it and have no real issues with it, but it is not a heavy use PC like my daily Windows workstation is.

That's fair enough, Allen. As you might have noticed I was having a bad day, but it really does boil my blood when people blindly disparage Vista like it's the worst OS ever, and it especially bugs me when it's coming from Macheads, many of whom have little to no experience of their own with Vista.

But those Mac ads that make fun of Vista sure are funny, aren't they? Who cares if they're accurate or not?

For me, it's not the greatest OS ever either, but in my experience it's better than XP and I've truly had zero problems with it many months after installing it myself on a new computer.

Ok, I'm ready to move on now :)

I was raised on DOS Many years ago and started using windows with version 1.x (seriously). No harm done in regards to your temper, it happens.

I love those Mac ads, I will have to say OS X is much less complicated than XP or Vista, I would go 100% mac if certain Windows only programs I use had Mac equivalents.

I have had more issues with Vista than with any other previous version of Windows. I feel that it is akin to Windows Me (LOL).

Have a great day!

Here we go more Vista bashing, ok let me say this a MAC is ok if you want to surf the net and check e-mails. Yeah the MAC is your machine if you want to do that. Yes the MAC simply works but don't act like they NEVER EVER crash cause they do. Me I think it's a silly comparison, it's like comparing a Civic to a Porsce, They are not built for the same purpose. The MAC is not built for as much versatility as windows. Notice how most MAC people use PC's? Also if you did an upgrade to Vista, you should back up all of your data. When I say data i mean e-mails, office files, quickbooks files, stuff like that, not web shots, not weather bug and all the other junk Novice users use. Then chances are everyone i know who has a series of Vista problems had XP problems and thought if i upgrade to Vista they'll go away, WRONG. Also, please understand, IT IS NOT MICROSOFT WHO MAKES DRIVERS FOR ALL THE JUNK YOU HAVE HOOKED UP TO YOUR COMPUTER, THAT IS THE VENDORS FAULT NOT VISTA. That's like saying all GMC car are bad cause goodyear stopped making tires. And to anyone griping about the warnings that popup when you open IE and how it constantly alerts you of danger(aka UAC). It does that becuase idiots go out to the internet and click on everything then when their computer is full of spywareand viruses they wanna say oh i hate Vista. No idiot hatew yourself, pay attention. The biggest problem with Vista is that MS changed it so not IDIOTS have to think before they just click on stuff and we know how people hate to think. Not to mention that 95% of the people who say they do not like Vista have not used it they just know some IDIOT who tried it and hated it. I have seen some legitimate Vista problems but they are beyond most people who read this forum, so if all you wanna do is play with i-tunes, surf the web and email, go get a MAC, let the grown ups play with the REAL toys.
